[info]chromodynamics just posted about a simple step you can take to protect your Gmail account from a known flaw that allows people to break into your account. Easy and definitely worth it.

WB just sent the following out to the websites - it's not for the press, they told me, but it is for the fans. Just some food for thought:

Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability. The decision to move “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support. If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between “Half-Blood Prince” and the much-anticipated first part of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which opens in November 2010. So although we have to wait a little longer for “Half-Blood Prince,” the wait from that film until “Deathly Hallows” will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.

Tis the season....

....For Snupin_Santa!

Sign-ups for [info]snupin_santa are open and will be until August 22! Come join the fun, and encourage your Snape/Lupin-curious friends to join us! Between the writers, the artists and the organization involved, I think Snupin_Santa is a pretty high-quality exchange.

Of course, I might be just a wee bit biased. ~_^

Delia is being evaluated tonight for black belt
Due to her attendance at camp, she missed the official third black belt screening last week, but sensei said they would evaluate her during class tonight. Which was awfully nice of them, because it meant we didn't have to drive to camp, pick her up from camp, take her to the screening, bring her back to camp and come back home, which would have been about 320 miles in all.

If she passes, she will take the black belt exam September 6.

Cross your fingers for Delia, please!

The Few. The Proud. The Sparkly.
My 40-ish black male coworker, who is an ex-Marine with 3 strapping boys like him, just passed by.

Clutched in his protective hand was a thoroughly debauched and bookmarked-near-the-end copy of:

Twilight.

THIS IS SO HILARIOUS, I can't stop snickering. WHAT DREW HIM TO THE BOOK? WAS IT THE ~*DAZZLE?*~

p.s. why yes, this is an invitation to shameless mockery. i could read twilight mockery all day.

Setting Goals
What with the 100 pushup challenge, I've been thinking about the goals I have in my life, and the progress I'm making toward them. I'm a Myers-Briggs ENFJ, and the "J" means that I'm into goals, schedules, structures (unlike my husband, who in contrast is a "P" go-with-the-flow sort of guy. A frequent source of, shall we say, not seeing eye-to-eye on things in our marriage).

I like setting goals for myself. I respond well to them, for the most part. Sometimes, however, I get frustrated with myself because I am not making the progress I would like. Sometimes that is due to the goal I have in mind isn't very realistic; sometimes I sabotage myself--mildly. Sometimes real life gets in the way (i.e., Rob's job loss has been a set back in a number of different areas).

What are some of your goals?

So yeah, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is moved back
This is the most sensible thing I've read on the subject so far.

Count me disappointed but resigned.

100 pushups again - who else is on board?
I know that [info]jbru, [info]minnehaha K. and [info]davidschroth are already doing the challenge.

Who else is doing it already, or is going to start? [info]kiwiria, [info]aome (I think???) and [info]irinaauthor. Anybody else? Leave a comment!

Go, Team Pushups! Go, go, go!

100 pushups starts!
W1 (Week One) D1 (Day One)

Given that during my initial test I managed eight pushups, I started at Level 2.

First I did 7 pushups, then rest 60 seconds
Then I glanced at the wrong section of the chart. I thought I was supposed to do 5 pushups (I should have done 7) then rest 60 seconds
Then I was supposed to do 5 pushups. Since I'd screwed up, I did 6. Rest 60 seconds
Then I did 4, rested 60 seconds
Then I'm supposed to do as many as I can. I managed 8. So in the future, when I do these reports, I'll write it like this:

100 pushups W1 D1
7, 5, 6, 4, (8)

FP&L lied
But the power's finally on... after I had to call a second time, hours past the initial promised fix-time.

Mind you, it's the same as the last several times. Something just for my small area fainted like a sissy when there were no substantial winds or anything, with power being fine within two blocks each east and west of my house, and likely got restored last of anywhere in the city proper. Some 'storm hardening', right?

Omg. Has anyone else out there seen the 'Trading Spouses' episode where one of the couples is a pair of lesbians and the other couple has this wife who's completely and abnoxiously homophobic? I'm watching it right now, and I'm just like '...'

She says at one point that you know, she just doesn't get it. And I'm just like - you don't NEED to get it. Nobody is asking you to understand and know the inner workings of why a girl might like another girl, or a boy another boy, etc. Just show a little understanding and acceptance, rather than constantly radiating 'OMG you're different, does not compute!'

People like her frustrate me.

The best part about helping [info]cirakaite with her lab experiments?

Playdough penises. Especially if the playdough is red and has blue bits that coincidentally look like veins unintentionally.

"Oh god, you've even made the tip look right!"

Ah, good times.

Pirate Sunday and draining Monday
Sunday's pint-sized pirate party )

Observation on Two: finding everything but herself )

Otherwise, really not much to report. We had nothing at all planned today aside from speech therapy after nap, so it was just a matter of killing time. All. Day. Long. We walked to the post office so I could mail my [info]livelongnmarry quilt, took the dog for a walk, went to the playground for at least an hour, came home and noodled around with board games and books until lunch, the girls played outside even more after lunch, then rest time, then speech, then ran a couple of errands, then I cooked dinner (had to fire up the oven when I discovered that Will forgot to turn the grill off after Saturday's burgers - propane tank is empty :P) while they horsed around. They continued to be extremely hyper by the time Will finally came home despite all the activity today - whatever they were on, I wanted some. :P Instead, I got a headache, which isn't going away, darn it. And I'm feeling all greasy and blech and over-chickened after dinner. I did, however, manage to cut out a lot of MiniPlu's Halloween costume. Trying frantically to catch up on LJ now - all I could manage all day was to bookmark entries I wanted to come back to.

We tentatively have playdates set up for the next two mornings, which still leaves a lot of time to kill, but at least less time. We're hoping to get together for a little bit with Steve and the boys tomorrow, and the girls have been invited to play three doors down for an hour or two on Wed morning. I want a vacation.

Sorry for the whining. I'm just ... tired.
